Rooted & Renewed Prayer Meditation for Spring

“When we carve out space to be present with God, He always meets us there.”

This week, the Miller family and I returned from Spring Break in Turks & Caicos. It was the perfect chance to unwind and reflect—one of those rare moments when life finally slows down.

One of our last evenings in paradise, Caleb and I sat in stillness, overlooking nature at a quiet resort. No phones. No agenda. Just peace. We had planned to do a 30-minute prayer meditation together—but once we started, we didn’t want it to end. An hour passed like a deep breath, and we walked away feeling more connected—to God and to each other.

But here’s the thing: you don’t need to be at a resort to experience that kind of presence. A walk in the park, your back porch, or a quiet moment before the house wakes up—it all counts. It’s not about the setting. It’s about the stillness.

When we carve out space to be present with God, He always meets us there.

In a world full of noise, it’s easy to go days without pausing—to be truly present with the Lord, with ourselves, with our spouse. But that simple hour of prayer reminded me how essential it is to slow down, to listen, and to let God speak into the spaces we so rarely give Him access to.

Whether you're in a season of dreaming, healing, transition, or simply needing to reconnect, I want to invite you to try this practice.

You don’t need anything fancy. Just a quiet place, a journal, and an open heart.

Rooted & Renewed Prayer Meditation:

A Guided Practice for Couples or Solo (30–60 minutes)

1. Opening Stillness (5 min)
Find a peaceful spot—outdoors if you can. Sit together (or alone) in silence. Close your eyes. Take deep, slow breaths and pray:

“Here I am, Lord.”

Let your body relax and your heart open.

2. Scripture Meditation (5 min)
Read this passage aloud or silently:

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul…” —Psalm 23:1-3
(or the full chapter—it’s so rich.)

Pause. Let a word or phrase rise up. Sit with it.

3. Prayer (10–20 min)
If you’re with someone, take turns praying aloud or silently.

If you’re alone, speak freely to God. Share your heart—your gratitude, your questions, your longings. Ask:

“What do You want to show me right now?”

Then… be still. Listen.

4. Reflection & Journaling (10–15 min)
Write down what stood out—words, images, emotions, phrases.
If you’re with someone, take time to share. Ask:

  • What is God inviting me into right now?

  • What do I need to release?

  • Where do I feel peace?

5. Closing Gratitude (2–3 min)
Wrap up with a short prayer of thanks.
If you’re with your spouse, speak a blessing over one another:

“May you feel God’s peace and presence today…”

This rhythm is simple, but powerful—and so easy to miss when life is moving fast. My encouragement? Make space for stillness. Whether alone or with someone you love, you’ll be amazed at what God whispers when you finally quiet everything else.

If you try this, I’d love to hear how it goes for you. Let’s be people who choose to be rooted and renewed—on purpose.
